Project Overview
Having successfully built a community on Facebook, Go West Equestrian Events had built a website using WordPress as the next step in their evolution. The website was to become a hub of information about their events as well as a source of advice for competing with and caring for horses, and eventually to sell branded merchandise through an online shop.
Having built the website herself, the founder contacted me with a view to imrpvoing the design and overall performance of the site. She wanted the site to have a more respectable and professional look as she looked to evolve the organisation.
My Approach
The Go West site has two main components: the events calendar and the blogs. There is very little content beyond these two things. From a user experience perspetive, the main goal was to make the journey to both of those as easy as possible.
We took inspiration from some of the leading sites in the equestrian space as well as from sites in other sports like cycling, motor racing, and some more journlistic sites as well.
The result was a clean, stylish, and minimal website that makes it easy for users to find what they need.
Impact
By adding some simple design rules to the content, we were able to give the Go West Equestrian Events site a cleaner and more professional look without sacrificing simplicity and ease of use.
